Teachers

"Classic postures, when practiced with discrimination and
awareness bring the body, mind and consciousness into a single, harmonious whole."

Iyengar Yoga teachers are widely recognized as being the best-trained yoga teachers in the world.

Under the guidance and approval of Mr. Iyengar and his daughter Geeta, teachers at the Kelowna Yoga House adhere to a strict international certification program.  The  certification program is regulated by the Iyengar Association of Canada (IYAC) and includes thirteen levels of certification.  Currently only the first 6 levels are certified in Canada. The first level takes a minimum of 3 years to complete.

As a group, they attend regular teacher training weekends in Kelowna with Senior Level teachers from the Iyengar Yoga Centre of Victoria.  As individuals they travel across Canada and the world for Iyengar teacher training and workshops.

She credits her good health and lightness of being to more than twenty years of practice and study and is still passionate after all these years. Deborah has made 3 trips to India to study directly with the Iyengars, and continues her studies here with Senior Teachers from North America. Krisna always knew that she had to try this "thing called yoga". Since she first stepped onto the mat in 1996, she hasn't stepped off! Seeing the transformational effect of the practice over the years, she feels that the name given to her by her parents may have been a sign of her path to come; door after door opened, leading her into the field of teaching. She regularly attends workshops and training sessions with Canadian and International Iyengar teachers. Krisna has also been to India twice to study with the Iyengars at the RIMYI in Pune (2006 and 2009). Ever a student herself, she is blessed to be doing what she loves, and enjoys sharing her insights and enthusiasm with others. Krisna is certified at the Junior Intermediate 1 level.

Tracy began her journey on the yogic path seeking help with a health challenge, and through her practice has experienced many of the benefits that yoga can offer.  In 2001, Tracy was certified as a yoga instructor through the Yoga Association of Alberta.  For the past several years, Tracy has been pursuing her interest more specifically in Iyengar Yoga. In 2007, Tracy moved to Kelowna and discovered The Kelowna Yoga House. Taking classes at this wonderful studio from the dedicated teachers inspired her to pursue further training in the Iyengar method. Tracy is now in her second year of the Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training Program and enjoying the challenge that this deeper learning brings.
