Qigong: The Eight Brocades with BJ Tumanut
Join BJ for a rejuvenating exploration of The Eight Brocades—a foundational qigong practice dating back over 800 years. These eight gentle movements offer profound benefits for body, mind, and spirit while remaining accessible to practitioners of all abilities.
In this session, BJ artfully blends traditional qigong with elements of yoga and tai chi to create a fluid, meditative experience. You’ll learn each of the Eight Brocades in depth, discovering how these seemingly simple movements promote strength, flexibility, and internal harmony when practiced with awareness.
Benefits include reduced stress, improved posture and balance, enhanced energy flow, greater mental clarity, and gentle strength-building. The practice offers a portable self-care tool you can use anywhere.
Drawing from her training in qigong, yoga, tai chi, and her connection to nature, BJ creates a learning environment that honors traditional wisdom while remaining accessible and light-hearted. Her teaching balances technical precision with an inviting sense of exploration.
This class welcomes both beginners and experienced practitioners. The Eight Brocades offer adaptable movements that can be modified for different bodies and energy levels. Come experience why these eight simple movements have endured as treasures of wellness wisdom for centuries.
Please bring water, weather-appropriate layers, and possibly an outdoor cushion or towel for comfort during seated portions. In case of inclement weather, the class will move indoors.

BJ’s Bio: BJ’s first encounter with yoga was in 2001. Something about this strange new physical language captivated her completely. The more her body learned to speak it, the deeper she wanted to dive —and discovering that yoga extended far beyond the mat into a wise, philosophical tradition sealed the deal. Flexibility and wisdom, it turned out, go hand in hand. After relocating to Penticton in 2017, she deepened her commitment, earning her RYT-200 and 300 certifications from the South Okanagan Yoga Academy. Her journey expanded in 2022 when she began studying qigong with Mimi Kuo-Deemer, followed by tai chi training with Simon and Brandi Cox in 2023. Now, BJ artfully leads qigong-centered classes enriched with yoga and tai chi movements for added fluidity, while weaving in insights from her time in nature. Her teaching honours the profound wisdom of these ancient practices while her approachable style keeps sessions grounded and accessible—occasional spontaneous laughter included. She guides students toward discovering their inner strength and fresh perspectives, all while maintaining an atmosphere that’s both meaningful and light-hearted.
