What fuels your passion for yoga and mindfulness?

My passion for yoga and mindfulness practices comes from witnessing and experiencing the profound impact they have. A few minutes of mindful movement and breath work can shift the body’s rhythm and calm the mind, as I’ve felt firsthand. In today’s fast-paced, ever-changing world, where stress and disconnection often dominate, these practices are a lifeline. They anchor me to what’s important and help me weave strong bonds with others, reminding me of our similarities when events in the world seem to be highlighting our differences. Offering me tools to navigate life’s uncertainties and polarity with more grace.

Do you practice/teach a particular lineage or style of yoga?

Sien Tan - Dancer's Pose

My yoga journey began with the precision of an Iyengar practice, grounding me in alignment and awareness, and deepened through teacher trainings in the Kripalu tradition, a heart-centered Hatha practice emphasizing inner listening. These roots shape my practice, and my classes are an ever-evolving blend, inspired by many years of exploration and the unique energy of the participants who attend. I continue to learn from the wisdom of my students and fellow teachers who help keep my practice alive and adaptive.

How does yoga affect your daily life?

Yoga is my anchor, grounding me in patience and compassion for myself and others. When I practice regularly, I feel tuned in—more aware of my emotions and less swayed by life’s noise. When time feels scarce, I’m reminded of the saying: when you don’t have time to move or meditate, that’s when you need it most. Those moments of mindfulness and ‘being in my body’ recharge me, helping me navigate life’s demands with more clarity and calm.

How do you want students to feel after your class?

My goal is to leave every student feeling deeply connected, grounded, and spacious… and maybe a bit less serious than when they entered. In today’s fast-paced world, many of us operate in a constant state of low-grade stress, wired for fight or flight. Our culture has normalized this, but as life grows more complex, I believe we need more tools and moments to reconnect with our inner wisdom. After my class I want students to leave with a deeper trust in themselves and their bodies. Ultimately remembering that when they slow down and pay attention, they are their own best teacher.

What are three fun facts unrelated to yoga that you want to share?

Sien Tan with stray cats

  1. I’m pretty sure my spirit animal is the domesticated house cat.
  2. When I’m not on my mat you can find me out in nature (I’m currently taking a herbal plant and medicine course) or with a cat(s)
  3. I moved back from Mexico last year where I lived for 4 years and had a health and food business making fermented and healthy foods… and fed stray
     cats… and foster failed 2.
